How to Dress Like Hematite from Not My Time: Riverpeak Heroes Book 1

When I sat down to write a superhero, one of the most important questions I had to ask myself was, “What will he wear?”

Funny enough, I came up with the outfit long before I came up with the name (there are over 8,000 characters in Marvel alone, never mind DC and indie superhero comics, so it took a long time to land on Hematite).

So, if you’re interested in seeing what his outfit looks like in photos (rather than just the text it’s described in once the novel comes out in January 2023), I got you! Featuring some online picks.

So, lo and behold – an official guide for how to dress like Hematite! And don’t worry – this is not some spandex suit that you’ll need to squeeze into. None of that around here!

All About Techwear

Hematite’s aesthetic best fits into the techwear fashion trend. Techwear is short for “technical wear,” which – as the name suggests – combines function with style. If you’ve ever seen a TikTok video of Chinese street fashion where they’re all wearing a lot of black and everyone looks cooler than you, that’s essentially it.

Techwear can be expensive, but that’s because there’s an emphasis on using high-quality materials and fabrics to create something that can last and still be functional. Think urban style, a lot of black, pockets, and buckles.

Because of this, techwear works really well for Kane. Not only is it aesthetically super frickin’ cool to look at (think modern ninja), but Kane is a street-fighting vigilante superhero. He’s constantly on the go and needs something that can hold up in a fight and not hinder his movements.

What’s In Kane’s Closet

While Kane doesn’t have one set uniform, he does have a few pieces that he cycles between. Some of these vary depending on the season – for example, he’ll wear a few more layers in the winter and lighter fabrics in the summer – but can always be found in his closet.

  • Black cargo pants that cinch at the ankles
  • Black or navy long-sleeved shirts
  • A cowl/tactical scarf that can reinforce balaclava coverage
  • Black hoodie or sweatshirt, usually with a “fish-mouth” style hood for additional face coverage
  • Black sneakers
  • Boxing wraps (but not gloves) to protect his knuckles

Steal His Look!

There are a few websites you can check out to invest in some really nice techwear; Nevstudio and Tenshi are ones I’ve seen a lot on TikTok. There are some options on Amazon, too, that are a bit more affordable. If you want to steal Hematite’s look, stick with blacks and dark blues. He’s blending in with the night, and his color palette allows him to do so with minimal effort.
